Flood in Palar: People of 3 hill villages in distress

In the Bargur hill region, on the border with Tamil Nadu, there are villages-Kuttaiyur, Velampatti, and Mattimarathalli. More than 800 people from more than 200 families live here. In the Kermalam, Kundri, and Kadampur forest areas next to Sathyamangalam, the Palar river near these villages is overflowing due to the northeast monsoon.

There is no elevated or road bridge across this river, which is about 500 meters wide. Currently, the water in the river is flowing up to 5 feet high, so the public is stuck in the villages, unable to leave. They are not able to go out even for essential needs. There is a situation where no one can come to the villages from outside.  Since they do not have the necessary food items for cooking, they are in a state of boiling porridge with rice bought from the ration shop before Diwali.

In this regard, the villagers said that the heavy rains in the mountainous area have caused flooding in the Palar river. As a result, the villagers have not been able to cross the river to go to the countryside. No one has been able to come to the village either.

Many people in the mountainous village are suffering from health problems and have not been able to go to the hospital. They have not received first aid. They said that they can go to the countryside to buy their necessary goods only if the flood recedes.

In this situation, Gobi sub Collector Sivanandham, Anthiyur Tahsildar Ilancheziyan, Revenue Inspector Aruna and officials inspected the three routes leading to these villages on Wednesday.

The flooding in the Palar river is causing great damage to the normal life of the villagers.  Therefore, people have demanded a over bridge be built across the Palar River.
