Forsaken by the Modi admin, embraced by the TN government

In 2001, the then Prime Minister Vajpayee presented the Stree Shakti Purashkar - Mata Jijabhai award in honour on Chinnapillai. Taking the audience into surprise on the occasion, the Prime Minister fell at the Chinnapillai’s feet as a mark of profound respect for her. In 2019, Chinnapillai was also given the Padma Shri award.
Who is this Chinnapillai? For those who may have forgotten this faceless women from a non-descript place in Tamilnadu, here is a short backgrounder. Chinnapillai hails from Pillusery village in Madurai district.
She used to be the leader of a women’s group who took the women for agricultural work and got the wages for them from the owners and distributed it to each of them. The services she has done through Kalanchiyam, a self-help group, is commendable. The group visited many villages and got fair wages for women farmers. Chinnapillai was the main reason for this. This effort of his was of great help in saving people from usury.
Despite poverty and old age, Chinnapillai continues to do social work till today. In this situation, some BJP members who visited her house 2 years ago have promised to build a house through the Prime Minister Modi's scheme. But even after more than 2 years, the promise stands only in word and not in action.
"When I was at home, suddenly four people came and wrapped me in a shawl. They said, Prime Minister Modi has a plan to build a house for everyone. They were from Tamilnadu BJP.I was given land patta.
But it's been two years. So far the house has not been built,”Chinnapillai has said in tears. This is the plight of Chinnapillai, who was praised by a Prime Minister. Tamilnadu BJP members never kept their promise to the woman.
A demand rose that if the Central Government does not take any step, the matter should be taken to the attention of Chief Minister Stalin and at least the Tamil Nadu government should make an effort to get Chinnapillai a home.
Amidst this situation, a heartening news has come that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin has today ordered to provide a house to Chinnapillai through the Kalaignar’s Dream House Scheme.
This is a happy news not only for Chinnapillai but for Tamil Nadu as well!
