The Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin said that providing free education and health services do not fall under the categories of providing freebies.
Addressing the gathering after distributing subsidies to students at a private arts and science college at Kolathur in Chennai, Stalin said, even though I have been traveling across Tamil Nadu, I get immense pleasure while visiting my own constituency - Kolathur.
“The government, last year, announced its plan to start ten colleges by Hindu religious and charitable endowment.
The colleges were also started as per the announcement. The government has also taken steps to provide free education to the first year students of the colleges. Apart from four courses, we have also included BA in Saiva Siddantham at the colleges,” he said.
“The demand for the college has become so high that only one in five people are getting seats here. Free education would also be given to the second year students of the college. The purpose of
providing free education is to make sure students need not worry about financial limits and concentrate on their studies,” he added.
“Many are against providing freebies and many others have filed petitions at the court against providing freebies. Providing free education and health service do not fall under this category,” he said.
