The Coimbatore District Basketball Association (CDBA) has elected its new set of office-bearers for the 2025–2029 term. The election was held at the Association’s office here on Sunday.
Mr. G. Selvaraj, Managing Director of Coimbatore CRI Pumps, was elected president for the third consecutive term. Mr. S. Balaji was re-elected secretary for the second term, while Ms. M. Jayachitra was elected treasurer for the first time.
The vice-presidents elected are Mr. T. Palanisamy, Mr. C.N. Ashok, Mr. C. Anand, Mr. R. Navarathankumar Bafna, and Mr. S. Siddharth. The joint secretaries are Mr. V. Ramakrishnan, Mr. A. Shajudeen, Mr. M. Deebala, and Mr. K. Vidya Priya.
Speaking after the election, Mr. G. Selvaraj said the Association had, under the ‘Namakku Name’ project, jointly constructed an international-standard semi-indoor sports stadium in partnership with the Coimbatore Corporation at a cost of about ₹1.5 crore. The facility features a high-structured roof meeting international height standards, 54 modern LED lights, and a uniquely painted playing surface.
Highlighting the Association’s achievements in the past four years, he said that 11 players from the district had been selected for the Indian basketball team in various categories, while 56 represented Tamil Nadu in national competitions. Six players secured government jobs through the sports quota, and Coimbatore district teams had won the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association’s inter-district competitions eight times in the past four years.
