Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore is hosting a breast cancer awareness exhibition throughout the month of October, dedicated to educating the public about early detection and treatment of the disease. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, with early detection leading to excellent outcomes and survival rates.
The exhibition, located on the ground floor of B Block in Ganga Hospital, features displays on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, self-examination techniques for women over 18, and the importance of annual mammograms.
It also aims to dispel misconceptions about chemotherapy and discusses surgical options, including breast reconstruction using abdominal tissues, which helps women return to their normal lives after treatment.
A special focus of the exhibition is the prevention and treatment of upper limb swelling (lymphoedema), a common condition after breast cancer treatment. Additionally, the hospital is collaborating with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis on "Project Shakti," which sends a mobile mammogram screening bus to rural areas. So far, 4,505 women have been screened in 89 camps, and 58 women have received free breast cancer treatment.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Ganga Hospital's Chairman and Managing Director, Kanakavalli Shanmuganathan, along with prominent medical professionals including Dr. S Raja Sabapathy, Dr. S Rajasekaran, and Dr. Hari Venkatramani. Open to the public from October 1st to 31st, the exhibition runs from 10 AM to 4 PM, with volunteers available to guide visitors.
