Government Chief Whip K Ramachandran distributed welfare schemes worth ₹4.88 crores to 549 beneficiaries at an event held at the Ooty Vokkaligar Sangam marriage hall on December 6. As part of the occasion, he also honored 455 sanitary workers by distributing sweets in recognition of their services.
In his speech, K Ramachandran highlighted the numerous welfare initiatives implemented in the Nilgiris district. He emphasized the impact of these schemes, noting that 10,700 schoolchildren benefit from the Chief Minister’s Free Breakfast Scheme, while 1,430 girl students receive support through the Pudhumai Penn Scheme. The Tamil Pudhalvan Scheme benefits 1,562 boy students, and the Nan Mudhalvan Scheme supports 24,647 students. Additionally, the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme benefits 1.27 lakh women, and the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam Scheme has helped 1,334 individuals in the district.
The event was attended by several prominent officials, including Ooty Revenue Divisional Officer Sathish, Personal Assistant to Collector (General) Sathiskumar, Deputy Director of Horticulture Shiphila Mary, District Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Officer Sakthivel, and Assistant Executive Engineer Raja. Also present were Ooty Municipality Deputy Chairman Ravikumar, along with Project Committee Members George, Visalatchi, and Ramaswamy.
