Traditional systems of Indian medicine were second to none in preventive and curative health care, and rigorous research work could lead to its greatness worldwide, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telengana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, said on Saturday.
In her valedictory address at the seminar on 'Technology driven Ayurveda for future generation’ at SRM Institute of Science and Technology at Kattankulathur, she said ''Indian Systems of Medicine is referred to as alternate medicine, with allopathy being the primary system.
Associated Medicine
This is wrong. It should be referred to as “Associated Medicine” on a par with allopathy. Being an allopathy practitioner myself, I can vouch for its value, efficiency and greatness.'' She reiterated that greater attention should be given to research work in the Indian system of medicine so that people could consume medicines without fear of side effects and for its greater adoption worldwide.
The 3-day event was organised by Interdisciplinary Institute of Indian System of Medicine (IIISM) and SRM IST in association with Tamil Nadu Chapter of All India Ayurvedic Congress to promote Ayurveda as one of the mainstreams of medical systems and focus its strength and unique treatment principles.In his Presidential Address, Dr. Paarivendhar said that ''Ayurveda is an important area for study, research''.
Dr. C.Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor and Dr. S.Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRM IST, respectively, Dr. R.Ilanchezhian, organising secretary All India Ayurveda Congress, Dr. L.Mahadevan, Chief Physician, Sri Sarada Ayurvedic Hospital were also present on the occasion.
