Governor humiliates Kashmir CM Omar

Governor humiliates Kashmir CM Omar

Every year on July 13, all political parties in Kashmir, except the BJP, commemorate the sacrifice of 22 Kashmiris who were shot dead by the Dogra army while fighting against Maharaja Hari Singh's rule in Srinagar in 1931.
Also, a public holiday is observed on that day. But after the abrogation of Article 370, the current Governor's administration has cancelled that holiday. Although there is an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor is the one who is ruling the state. After the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, the status of the state government has been reduced.
Political parties, including the ruling National Conference Party, are accusing Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, appointed by the BJP-led Union government, of acting arbitrarily without consulting the elected government.
Time is allotted for each political party to pay homage at the Martyrs' Cemetery in Srinagar. But this year, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha's administration banned the paying of homage. Moreover, several leaders of the ruling party were placed under house arrest yesterday. This action was taken to prevent them from observing Martyrs' Day.
In this context, yesterday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah along with his ministers scaled the barrier to reach the martyrs' cemetery. Then he paid floral tributes to the martyrs' cemetery there. He also shared a video related to this on his Twitter page.
In this regard, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah posted, "I paid my respects and prayed at the graves of the martyrs of July 13, 1931. The unelected government here (referring to the Lieutenant Governor) stopped me from walking from Nowhatta Chowk for this. I had to climb the wall and jump as they blocked the way inside. They tried to stop me by holding my hands. But today, they cannot stop me."
Abdullah also said in another video that some people attacked him inside the cemetery. These videos are spreading rapidly on the internet. Following this, political party leaders are strongly condemning the incident.
No one can accept that the Chief Minister is being kept under house arrest and forced to climb a wall just for wanting to pay tribute to the martyrs. It is an incident that should not happen... It is an incident that should be ashamed and bowed its head.
Did the people elect him as the Chief Minister just to be humiliated like this? Is this how the Union government treats a Chief Minister elected by the people? Is this how a Chief Minister elected by a governor who is not elected by the people should be treated? Questions are being raised.
From Tamil Nadu to Kashmir, the Indian coalition and other opposition parties are condemning the allegations that the Union government is taking away the rights of the state governments. The Governor has failed to respect the sentiments of the people of Kashmir. However, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has achieved what he wanted by breaking the ban and jumping over the wall.
Everyone who believes in democracy should raise their voices in solidarity with the Kashmir Chief Minister!
