The Governor has to act as a bridge between the union and state governments and help get all schemes for the state from the union government
But since R.N Ravi took charge as the Governor of Tamilnadu, it has been a major charge that he is hindering all good schemes of the government reaching the people.
The pile-up of files pending Governor's nod keeps increasing without respite.
Now it has come to light that the Governor has added to the pile-up another file regarding request to confer honorary doctorate on Sakaraiyah a significant personality among Marxist Communist party leaders.
Who is Sankaraiyah? He is one who stopped his studies to join the freedom movement. He spent 9 years in prison for the cause.
The Madurai Kamaraj University passed a resolution in the month of August to confer the honorary doctorate in recognition of his unique service to the poor.
It is amidst this background that when the file regarding the honorary doctorate was submitted to the Governor for conferment during the Convocation ceremony in the university on November 2, he has refused to sign it.
The Department of Higher Education has confirmed this information and the Governor's act has drawn flak from many.
Recently when the Tamilnadu Government confered the Thagaichal Tamizhar award to Sankaraiyah he gave away the award money of Rs. 10 lakhs as donation to Corona prevention fund.
Hence the conferment of doctorate on a person of Sankaraiyah's stature would add prestige to the university itself.
Now the doubt has arisen whether the Governor has neglected the confirment of the doctorate on the 100 years old Sankaraiyah because it was mooted by Chief Minister M.K Stalin.
This has hurt all Tamils hence the award of doctorate on Sankaraiyah should happen on the announced Date.
This will only add honour to the Governor.
