Govt helps to open bank accounts for college students in Tiruvannamalai

Under the leadership of Tiruvannamalai District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian, a camp was organised at Kalaignar Karunanidhi Government College of Arts to facilitate the opening of new bank accounts and linking of Aadhaar numbers for college students. This initiative, conducted by the Social Welfare and Women's Rights Department, is part of the Tamil Puthalavan and Pudhumai Pen programs.

The District Collector explained that under the Pudhumai Pen scheme, Rs 1000 is provided monthly to girl students who studied in government schools from the 6th to 12th standard. To further support these students as they enter college, the Tamil Puthalavan project will ensure that this financial assistance is deposited directly into their bank accounts. The aim is to help students use this amount for educational expenses, thus aiding their academic progress and personal development.

Bank accounts will be opened for 4,024 students in the district, enabling them to receive the monthly financial support directly. The District Collector urged students to take advantage of this opportunity promptly.

During the camp, the District Collector distributed bank account books to the students, allowing them to receive educational scholarships under the Tamil Puthalavan and Pudhumai Pen schemes. The event was attended by District Social Welfare Officer P Saranya, government officials, bank staff, and students.
