District Collector Mr. S. Karmegam led a meeting on the regulation of butcher shops and slaughterhouses in Salem district.
The meeting highlighted the importance of ensuring public access to healthy and safe meat.
The Food Safety Department, along with the Corporation, Municipalities, and Panchayat Unions, is committed to ensuring public well-being said the collector and added that the regulations mandate that meats should not be displayed openly, and strict adherence to hygiene and safety is crucial.
The meeting also recommended the establishment of hygienic model slaughterhouses and the regulation of existing slaughterhouses and abattoirs, with a two-month compliance timeline.
Key participants in the meeting included the appointed Food Safety Officer Mr. C. Katiravan, alongside representatives from the Municipal Corporation, Municipalities and Panchayat Union Officers.
