Health screening camp was organised for women at Horasholai village

A health screening camp exclusively for women was organised in Horasholai Village near Kotagiri to celebrate Women’s Day. The initiative was a joint effort between the Department of Community Medicine at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (PSG IMSR), Coimbatore, and the Horasholions Welfare Trust. The medical team, led by Dr. Sudha Ramalingam, Head of the Department of Community Medicine and Research, was warmly received by the Horasholions Welfare Trust, village Headman Raman, and local women.
During the event, Dr. N Ramakrishnan, Medical Officer at PSG Urban Health Centre, highlighted the vital role of women in societal progress and how it aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dr. Sudha Ramalingam addressed the gathering on the "7 Pillars of Wellness," emphasising the importance of nutrition, exercise, stress management, social relationships, avoiding substance abuse, restful sleep, and natural sunlight exposure. She stressed that good health and education are fundamental to women's empowerment.
Dr. Josephine conducted a session on breast and cervical cancer, explaining the risks, symptoms, and the significance of Breast Self-Examination (BSE) for early detection. She demonstrated the examination technique using a breast model and encouraged regular check-ups. Women also had the opportunity to clarify doubts in an interactive session.
Following the awareness program, clinical examinations for breast lumps were conducted for 40 women. Additionally, blood sugar, hemoglobin, and blood pressure tests were carried out, benefiting a total of 109 participants. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by village Headman Raman. Organisers assured follow-ups for those requiring further medical attention and expressed their commitment to conducting similar camps in other villages, reinforcing their dedication to women’s health and empowerment.
