Hearing impaired picket Collectorate

Many members of speech and hearing impaired persons welfare association, led by its president Mohankumar,  picketed district collectorate on Friday seeking hike in monthly maintenance assistance from  Rs 1000 to Rs 3000, one percent reservation in government and private jobs, houses for all those who were below poverty line, camp to provide driving licenses, compassionate ground appointment in government jobs, appointment of experienced sign language teachers in all educational institutions and differently abled welfare offices.

During this protest, those who could not speak verbally took part in the protest by blowing whistles and expressing their demands through sign language.  Subsequently, the District Disabled Welfare Officer Kothaiselvi came there and inquired about the request.

At that time, Collector H. Krishnanunni, who came to the office, met them and assured that the demands would be brought to the attention of the relevant ministries and officials and action would be taken.  Accepting this, they gave up their struggle.
