High point reached in Governor, Chief Minister tussle

High point reached in Governor, Chief Minister tussle

As the Vice Chancellor’s conference took off in the Nilgiris under the chairmanship of Tamilnadu Governor K.N Ravi amidst a high point in the clash between the Governor and the Tamilnadu Government, the bill to empower the state to appoint Vice Chancellors was passed in the assembly.

What is the background of this development? The Tamilnadu Governor K.N Ravi has been sitting over the files relating to NEET exemption resolution passed in the assembly and several other resolutions. DMK and its allies announced boycott of the tea party announced by the Governor on Tamil New Year Day. This was followed by a black flag waving protest against the Governor by the DMK and allied parties.
When  the tenure of the Vice Chancellor of  Dr.M.G.R Medical University, Dr.Sudha Seshaiyan ended, the Governor issued an order extending his tenure up to the month of December. A rift began between the Tamilnadu Government and the Governor began from here.

At a time when the conference of the Tamilnadu Vice Chancellors began under the chairmanship of Governor of Tamilnadu, the bill empowering the state government to appoint Vice Chancellors was passed on Monday. AIADMK and BJP members opposed the bill and staged a walk out from the assembly proceedings.
When the changes in the laws are brought to force, it will empower the state government to appoint Vice Chancellors of 13 universities. Passing of the bill is seen as a high point in the tussle between the state government and the governor.

However an end should be brought about to this state of affairs. It is the expectation and aspiration of the people of Tamilnadu that no hindrance should be made by anyone to the development of the state.
