Hindu Munnani leaders stage road roko

Hindu Munnani functionaries staged a road blockade to protest the removal of a banner kept by them for Vinayagar Chathurthi festival at Erode Sampath Nagar by the police on the ground of obstructing traffic on Friday evening. An 11-feet high Ganesha idol was consecrated on the 31st in the area on behalf of the Hindu Munnani and poojas were being conducted daily.

All the Ganesha idols consecrated in Erode will be taken out in a procession today (Saturday) evening from the area and immersed in Cauvery river. In this situation, Erode Veerappanchatram Police Inspector Shanmugam and the police removed the banners which were obstructing the traffic. In protest against this, more than 20 people including Hindu Front administrators Jagadeesan, Shankar, Sakthimurugan participated in a road blockade.

In this regard, there was a commotion because a teenager Manikandan tried to set himself on fire by douzing petrol on his body. Police rushed to his rescue and snatched the can from his hand.  Then, the Munnani leaders went to the collector's office and participated in a dharna there. They dispersed from there based on the negotiations conducted by the revenue department. The incident caused a flutter in Erode town yesterday.
