Industan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) in Chennai has launched the Bachelor of Pharmacy program, approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). The 4-year undergraduate degree teaches students about drug synthesis, dosage formulation, chemical nature analysis, and preclinical testing of new drugs. The program also covers marketing pharmaceutical products and patenting new drugs. The launching ceremony took place on July 7th, 2023, at the Padur campus of HITS. The chief guest, Dr. V. Ravichandran, Director of the National Institute of Pharmaceuticals Education and Research (NIPER), and General Manager of JOGO Health, Mr. Charles Jesudasan, were the guest of honor.
The Chancellor of HITS, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, highlighted the importance of research and technology in the healthcare sector, emphasizing the need for more research and a focus on the pharmacy sector's value. Mr. Jesudasan highlighted the benefits of the course due to the exponential growth of the healthcare sector, pharma sector, and digital health, as well as the development of soft skills such as leadership, innovation, and collaboration. Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese welcomed the students who joined the pharmacy program to embark on a journey to shape the future of pharmacy.
