India’s investment in water sector will be highest by 2024, says union minister

Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that India’s investment in water sector in 2024 was estimated to be $210 billion and it would be the highest investment in this particular sector in the world. He said that the access to water connections via tap has increased from 16% in 2019 to 54% in 2022.   He was addressing the gathering during the four-day-long business leadership intensive programme ‘Isha Insight: The DNA of success’ that was organized by Isha yoga centre in the city.

Jal Jeevan Mission

The minister provided deep insight into how the union government has been prioritizing and pacing Jal Jeevan Mission that aims at providing safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections to all households in rural India by 2024.

To ensure the quality of water in rural areas, the ministry has been engaging the rural community and leveraging technology to craft innovative solutions. It embarked on creating water and sanitation committees in each and every village.“We started training the ladies in the villages and gave them hand-held devices to test the quality on all basic 12 parameters.
