Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi’s Children’s Foundation (KSCF) announced their upcoming campaign “Child Marriage Free India” campaign in the state today.This was announced through a state consultation held recently jointly with the state Social Welfare and Women Department. KSCF has started nationwide consultations after the recent appeal by Kailash Satyarthi for a sustained campaign across the country to make India child marriage-free.
Appointment of Child Marriage Prohibition Officer (CMPO), mandatory FIR registration in cases of child marriage and incentivization of parents to motivate them to not marry their under-age children were some of the key resolutions deliberated. Key dignitaries present on this occasion included senior civil judge and deputy secretary-SLSA, TV Jayashree, secretary-DLSA, Chennai, R Tamil Selvi, secretary, DLSA-Tiruvallur, PV Sandilyan, joint director, department of Social Defence, Sundari and Dhananjay Tingal, executive director of BachpanBachaoAndolan, a sister organization of KSCF.
