Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad estate was robbed in April 2017 when opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami was the Chief Minister. Robbers looted goods, and killed the estate security Om Bahadur while he attempted to stop them. Since the incident took place during the AIADMK regime, it had gained a lot of attention.
A few days after the incident, Jayalalithaa’s former car driver Kanagaraj, who was also involved in the case, died mysteriously in a road accident in Salem. Similarly, Dinesh, a computer operator at the estate, ended his life by suicide. Nilgiris police, who initially took up the investigation, arrested 10 people including Sayan and Manoj from Kerala. But then the opposition parties including the DMK sought a CB-CID investigation.
During the 2021 election campaign, DMK chief MK Stalin assured to handover the case to CB-CID if they came to power. Going by his voice, Stalin handed over the case to CB-CID. Not just the robbery case, but also the death of Kanagaraj and Dinesh.
Meanwhile, erstwhile AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam, along with other political leaders, has been emphasizing that the investigation should be intensified.
Recently, sleuths have questioned Perumalsamy, Veeraperumal, Raja, estate manager Sayan, Jayalalithaa’s adopted son VN Sudhakaran. Even Sasikala was questioned. Now, the officials want to summon Sasikala’s sister-in-law Ilavarasi, and EPS. They have also summoned Jayalalithaa’s former assistant Mukundan.
The investigation has been gaining its momentum in recent times. With only nine months left for the regime to end, the investigation has caught the attention of the people. A suspicion has been rising among the public, and it is publicly discussed on social media platforms. Only the verdict will reveal what actually happened at the estate. Let the time come soon.
