The city-based Kongunadu hospital launched the district’s first-ever free mobile clinic service, and it was inaugurated by health and family welfare minister Ma Subramanian on Friday at Kongunadu nursing college in Thennampalayam in the district.
The hospital, with a capacity of 375 beds, has been operating as a multi-speciality hospital in the heart of the city for the past 35 years.
Adding to the hospital’s reputation, the mobile clinic service was launched to serve poor and underprivileged people in rural areas.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the city mayor Ranganayaki. Dr P Raju, Chairman and Managing Trustee of Kongunadu Hospital and Kongunadu Nursing College, delivered the welcome address.
Coimbatore MP Ganapathy Rajkumar, Deputy Director of Rural and Health Department Dr P Balusamy, Coimbatore North District Secretary A Ravi, Thaliyur Municipality Chairman Dhandapani, Nightingale College Trustee Manoharan, Managing Director of Viswanathan Construction Viswanathan, Kongunadu Nursing College Trustee Aarthi Viswanathan, Chairperson of Kongunadu Nursing College Vijayalakshmi Raju, Union Secretary Sami Paiyan, and more than 500 doctors, nurses, administrative officers, professors, students of Kongunadu Nursing College, and the general public participated in the event.
This free mobile clinic is equipped with a doctor consultation room, blood testing room, X-ray room, ECG room, and a pharmacy—all within one air-conditioned moving vehicle. The bus also features an LED screen. Through this, public awareness is being raised about diseases and methods of managing them.
Additionally, for the convenience of hosting outdoor medical camps, the bus has been fitted with an expandable tent facility on the top section for setting up external spaces.
Generally, 25% of diseases can be diagnosed and treated based on the doctor’s clinical experience. Another 25% of illnesses can be identified through blood, urine, X-ray, and ECG tests. Ultrasound scans and echo tests can help detect another 25% of diseases. Thus, a total of 75% of diseases can be identified with these mentioned tests. All these facilities are available in the mobile clinic.
Only the remaining 25% of patients require advanced diagnostics like CT scans, MRI scans, PET scans, and cath lab endoscopy tests. With the features of this mobile medical clinic bus, medical services can reach remote villages and tribal areas, improving people’s health and ultimately their livelihood and economy. This mobile medical bus service is a highly commendable initiative, explained
Dr Raju.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Karthikeyan Raju, Medical Director of Kongunadu Hospital.
