As part of the ‘Seastainability’ initiative, over 100 employees of Kyndryl India participated in a beach clean-up drive few days back collecting litter at the Besant Nagar Beach.
The participants included leaders, environment enthusiasts and experts. They cleaned one kilometre stretch of the beach and segregated dry and biodegradable waste as part of Kyndryl’s commitment.
According to estimates by the United Nations Environment Programme, today between 75-199 million tonnes of litter can be found in the ocean.
Apart from plastic waste, overfishing, climate change, pollution, habitat destruction, invasive species, and other forms of human exploitation have put the oceans at risk, leading to extinction of several aquatic organisms. The damage to oceans in turn affects water quality, wildlife, as well as human health.
The half day activity was organized in line with Kyndryl’s ‘Climate Action Pillar’ - a global initiative to support the social and environmental causes, leveraging its technology and workforce to make a big impact towards sustainable business practices and conserving biodiversity
