Erode branch of Legal Rights Protection Association and Legal Rights Trade Union was inaugurated at Erode on Sunday.
Its All India Founder President Arun Siddhartha presided over the program and distributed free sarees to 80 women. In his speech, he said that through this association, steps will be taken to create legal awareness among the people, especially college and school students by holding camps, extend free legal aid to poor and needy, and create a lawyer for every household. Though the government arranged many legal aid/awareness camps, Lok Adalats, Mediation Centres, more need legal help. So, the forum was started, he explained.
He said the changes in the CPC, CrPC and Evidence Act created much confusion among lawyers and police. Many cases in this regard were pending in various courts. If there is no changes in the Acts, his forum would print a small book on various sections of the Act and distribute it to the public.
He wanted more rigid norms in the amended Prohibition Act to check hooch tragedy, which was passed in the Assemby on Saturday with slight changes only.
The Legal Awareness Camp was inaugurated by Additional Collector Ramakrishna Samy. Union State Secretary M Revathi, Trade Union District Secretary J Shanta Devi and many others participated in the event.
