Panic gripped Palakwah village in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, after a leopard strayed into the village, sparking chaos and a violent encounter between frightened residents and the wild animal.
According to reports, the leopard entered the village fields on October 22, sending villagers running in panic. While most residents fled for safety, a few villagers armed with sticks and tools attempted to chase the leopard away.
In the commotion, the leopard attacked three villagers, injuring them on the spot. Enraged by the attack, some residents retaliated and beat the animal with sticks to drive it out of the area. The frightened leopard eventually escaped into the nearby forest, while the injured villagers were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Officials from the Forest Department reached the site soon after being alerted. They have launched efforts to track the leopard’s movements and prevent it from re-entering residential areas.
A video of the leopard attack, showing the terrified villagers trying to fend off the animal, has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread concern. Wildlife experts have once again highlighted the growing instances of human-animal conflict in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh, urging stronger preventive measures and greater public awareness.
