Obesity leads to various health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, heart attacks, respiratory problems, and mental health disorders. Recognising this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched an awareness campaign to reduce obesity. He spoke about this in detail in his 119th Mann Ki Baat program.
"One in eight people suffers from obesity. The obesity rate among children has increased fourfold. To build a healthy nation, we must first tackle obesity. Reduce your cooking oil consumption by 10%. When buying cooking oil, purchase 10% less than usual. Follow regular exercise and diet control strictly," he emphasised.
Continuing his speech, Prime Minister Modi urged, "It is not enough for you alone to reduce cooking oil consumption. Challenge 10 people you know to do the same. This awareness drive will help combat the country's obesity problem." He also highlighted the importance of parents engaging in outdoor activities with their children and promoting a culture of sports.
To strengthen this campaign, Prime Minister Modi named 10 celebrities to support the movement: industrialist Anand Mahindra, Bhojpuri actor Dinesh Lal Yadav, shooter Manu Bhaker, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, actor Mohanlal, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, actor R. Madhavan, playback singer Shreya Ghoshal, and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy.
"I challenge all 10 of you to reduce your cooking oil consumption. Also, challenge 10 more people you know. Together, we will start a war against obesity," the Prime Minister declared. There is no doubt they will accept and act accordingly.
Although PM Modi has nominated these celebrities, the real responsibility lies with every citizen. Housewives, in particular, should take up this challenge and implement it in their kitchens.
By making small changes in our eating habits, we can build a stronger, healthier, and disease-free future.
So, let us accept Prime Minister Modi’s call to fight obesity and pledge to reduce our use of cooking oil!
