Let’s fall in love with books

Let’s fall in love with books

In the technology-driven era, cell phones and the internet have become an inevitable part of day-to-day life. People are stuck in an era where technology has been doing more harm than good. Mobile phones with internet connection have taken over today’s generation, and it has become a part of their own. Of its numerous deadliest impacts, a sharp decline in the book reading habit is a significant one. But educationists insist on restoring the habit.
Meanwhile, the government has also been taking numerous steps to inculcate book reading habits among the public. They have been organizing book fairs and awareness programmes. As a part of this, over 1000 school and college students, dressed up like books, carried ply cards stating, ‘Let’s love reading’, during the Books Day festival that was held in Dharmapuri.
Speaking at the event, Dharmapuri collector Sathish said that one can develop knowledge, learn new things and see the world from different perspectives by reading books.
“Books make us better human beings. Reading books can change your life beautifully. You can learn new words, improving your vocabulary. When we learn new words, our knowledge improves and we get a clear understanding of the language. This will also improve our writing skills. Reading books is the best way to improve our memory power and gain peace of mind. Therefore, books are our intellectual property. Let us realize that and improve our reading skills,” he added.
In order to reduce cell phone use and increase the habit of reading, Namakkal Don Bosco Anbu Illam has introduced a wonderful programme. As a part of it, they provide free ``Box Library'' to children in rural areas. About 50 to 70 books both in English and Tamil languages will be placed in each box that is meant for each village. This initiative has been undertaken with the help of Desai Foundation and SPS Foundation. Similar events are being organized across the state.
Therefore, children, students and youths, give a break to your mobile phones and pick up a book to read. Parents should also work hard to install the reading habit in their children.
Let's all read and love books to live a special and useful life!
