Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan tabled the bill to amend the Tamil Nadu Government Servant Act 2016 in the Legislative Assembly yesterday. In it, the law requiring applicants who do not have sufficient knowledge of Tamil to pass Tamil within 2 years from the date of employment even if they are qualified and employed, has been amended and it has been mentioned that they must pass Tamil in the examination conducted for government jobs.
At the same time, Tamil Nadu Vazhvurimai Party leader Velmurugan has expressed fear that this amendment would enable people from northern states to master Tamil in a short period of time and join the workforce. He also insisted that this law should be reviewed so that only Tamilians write the exam. The same opinion was echoed by PMK and VKC members. Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan has assured that appropriate action will be taken in consultation with the Chief Minister.
Following this, the law was unanimously passed with the support of the legislators. This amendment is welcome. The law should be amended so that only Tamils can be employed in Tamilnadu government jobs. That day itself will be golden. No doubt Chief Minister M.K.Stalin will make that day blossom soon!
