Lighting ceremony at Avinashilingam Institute

It was a solemn occasion at the Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore at 6 pm on April 22, when the Lighting Ceremony was conducted in honour of the outgoing students of the institution. Dr. N. Manonmani, Dean, School of Arts & Social Sciences welcomed the gathering. The Presidential address was given by Meenakshi Sundaram, Managing Trustee. 

His Holiness Dr.Kumara Gurupara Swamigal, the Chief Guest, lit the mother lamp. The members of the faculty lit the lamps to the students of their respective classes. The pledge was administered by the Chancellor Prof. SP. Thiyagarajan. 

In his speech, the chief guest quoted the second Tirukkural. from chapter 1 which says “What is the use of all your learning / if you can’t surrender at the feet of God”. He mentioned that many changes have been taking place in the recent times and change is necessary for education. It is for this purpose that Avinashilingam Ayya had started this instituition. 

He emphasized that education is important for a person and that it must be on the right path.  He added that the goal of education should be to help other. “Aram seyya virumbu”, he quoted from Tirukkural. Dr.C. Priyadharshini, Asst.Professor in Tamil proposed the vote of thanks.
