Mahakumbabishekam of Ancient Eswaran Temple held

Thousands of devotees  took part in the Mahakumbabishekam of over 1000-year-old Erode Kottai Eswaran Temple called as Aruthra Kabaleeswarar Temple on Thursday morning. The temple is  coming under the HR and CE department. It was constructed by Konguchozhan Karikalan who ruled Dharapuram as Rasarasapuram in AD 1177. The sun light will directly reflect on the main deity on 25,26,27 on Tamil Month Masi.

The temple houses an 800-year-old Vanni tree, Natarajar, 63 Nayanmars, Lord Shani, Kalabhairava, Chandran and other deities. Annual car festival will be held in the month of Vaikasi. Guru Paerchi, 63 Nayanmars procession, and Guru Pooja are important events of the temple.

The renovation work of the temple started in 2019. It included painting of the gopurams, sculptures, restoration of statues without modification, work of fixing gold-plated flag post, renovation of Annadana Koodam, Vahana, Vasantha mandapam etc. As all these works were completed, the Kumbabhishekam date was fixed as per the norm of holding consecration once in 12 years as per the Ahama Sasthra.
