Martin welfare foundation donates Rs 50 lakhs for Kaushika River restoration

Martin welfare foundation has extended financial assistance worth Rs 50 lakhs to renovate and rejuvenate Kaushika River in the district.
The cheque was handed over by Rotary club 3201 development committee president Leema Rose Martin to Rotary district 3201 governor advocate Sundaravadivelu at Rotary office in the city.
In association with Rotary district 3201, the river has been renovated for about six kilometers from Vaiyampalayam to Devampalayam in the district by Koushika Neerkarangal. A detailed project report has been submitted for the same.
The event was attended by Daisy Martin, president of Coimbatore Alam Rotary club, Suriya Kumari, coordinator of Kaushika Neerkarangal, and member of Coimbatore Rotary club, Kavitha Gopalakrishnan, assistant governor of Rotary District 3201 and others.
Sundaravadivelu said, “Activist Selvaraj has been working on restoring the river for about 15 years by founding an organization called Kaushika Neerkarangal. They have been implementing various projects to restore the water body and to raise the groundwater level.”
We have been planning to undertake a long-term restoration work for about 20 kilonters from Kattu Bannariyamman temple to Devanampalayam dam, and in the first phase, we are focusing on dredging the canal and restoring it for six kilometers, he added.
