Tamil Nadu Water supply and Drainage (TWAD) board has been implementing Pillur III drinking water augmentation scheme at the cost of Rs 740 crore to provide increased water to added areas of the city. Works to establish pumping stations and water treatment plants, and lay pipelines have been going on in a phased manner.
Upon completing the project, added areas would get an additional water supply of 178 MLD. Works have been going on in a full-fledged manner to complete the project in another few months. TWAD has been constructing a master storage tank with a capacity of 73 lakh liter at the cost of Rs 134 crore near Pannimadai in the district. Principal secretary to Municipal Administration of water supply department Sivadas Meena inspected the ongoing works of the project. He was accompanied by corporation commissioner Pratap and TWAD administrative engineers.
