The Tamilnadu Choef Minister M.K.Stalin was invited for the conference of the Hill Plantation Tamils in Sri Lanka by the leaders and organizers of the event. Due to health reasons he couldn't attend but he sent the Finance Minister Thanngam Thenarasu.
However the Central Government did not clear permit for his visit till the previous day night of the conference. Chief Minister's recorded speech was also not released. This cannot be considered as something that happened unnaturally.
Nirmala Seetharaman the Union Finance Minister attended the conference on behalf of the Union Government. Questions arise who was behind the Tamilandu Minister's travel interruption and the hindered Chief Minister's speech.
The Union Government has scuttled Thangam Thenarasu's visit and the Cheif Minister's speech through indirect crafty means. This is highly condemnable and unbecoming by the Union Government. It cannot be called otherwise other than small mindedness. No acceptable excuse is tenable.
One cannot forget that the Chief Minister had sent innumerable shipments of relief materials to the Sri Lankan people. The umbilical chord relationship between Indian and Sri Lankan Plantation Tamils cannot be severed by any act of small mindedness.
