More than 20 people have died after drinking poisoned liquor in Marakkanam and Chittamur villages of Villupuram district. Many lives have been lost in one day in one town. Even though it is illegal to buy and drink intoxicating liquor, the poor families who have lost their precious lives need solace. It has become necessary to participate in suffering with humanity.
Shocked Chief Minister M.K.Stalin went to the spot on the same day and condoled with the bereaved families.
He did not stop with that but accelerated the investigation.
He ordered the suspension of police officers including the Superintendent who acted lethargically. He also ordered a CBCID investigation and showed action.
He also ordered to provide relief assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased. But AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami and BJP state president Annamalai tried to capitalize on the poisoned death and gain political gains.
They are chanting ``Chorus'' that Chief Minister M.K.Stalin should resign immediately.
It is not right to say that the death due to consumption of poisoned liquor is something that happened only during the DMK regime.
Have not such incidents never happened before?
In 2001, during Jayalalitha's rule, 52 people died after drinking poisoned liquor in Panruti. In the same year, more than 30 people died of alcohol poisoning near Kanchipuram and near Redhills while more than 30 people lost their eyesight.
How many times did Jayalalitha resign? Does Edappadi Palaniswami not know this history?
Gujarat the home state of Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah's where alcohol is prohibited, recently claimed 40 lives due to poisoned liquor.
Did the state chief minister resigned then? Does Annamalai not know this history?
Edappadi Palaniswami and Annamalai, who did not open their mouths then, are now opening their mouths wide open? The truth is that both tend to see political gains in the houses of the bereaved.
The Tamilnadu Police force under Edappadi Palaniswami, while he was the Chief Minister, shot dead 13 people in Thoothukudi like shooting sparrows, why didn't he resign then-? If he had resigned then it would have made little sense to open his mouth now.
It is common for the opposition parties to demand the resignation of the Chief Minister if law & order breaks down in any state. The Supreme Court has given a certificate to Tamil Nadu as a peaceful state.
It would be pointless to raise voices for the resignation of Chief Minister M.K.Stalin for trivial reasons when he is a role model for whole of India.
