Meet held on women and legislation in India

District level conference on Women and Legislation in India- Opportunities and Challenges was held at Hotel Heritage Inn on  May 23  and the programme was organized by Good Shepherd Health Education Centre and Dispensary, an NGO from Karamadai working extensively for women empowerment from 1977. 

There were 60 participants including NGO representatives from Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode and Tirupur Districts.  Sr. Anila Mathew FCC, Director General, GSHEC inaugurated the programme and delivered the inaugural address.   Adv. S. Reena and Mr. A. Arivarasu B.E, B.L, Municipal Chairman, Gudalur Municipality led sessions on Indian judiciary, laws for women, challenges and strategies in obtaining justice.Many real life examples were cited to substantiate the laws. 

The participants shared their concerns on the issues faced by women in day to day life and requested to make legal assistance more handy and timely irrespective of their socio-economic background. It was also commented that accurate sensitization on acts and laws for women at the grass root level is very much required to ensure that victims are able to access justice. Sr. Celine FCC, Provincial Councillor, Seraphic Province, Palakkad welcomed the gathering and Mr. A. Antony Peter, IGP Coordinator, GSHEC proposed vote of thanks.
