A meeting was held at the Valparai Municipal Office to evaluate the preparedness for potential heavy rainfall in the region on July 31. The meeting was led by Jeyashree Muralidharan, Monitoring Officer and Secretary to the Government, Social Welfare and Women’s Rights. Representatives from various government departments attended the meeting.
Several measures are being implemented to address issues that may arise from heavy rainfall. Due to the heavy rains in Valparai, the water flow has increased significantly, prompting the relocation of residents living along the riverbanks to safer locations.
A minor landslide occurred at the 23rd hairpin bend, and repair work is currently underway with the use of 2,000 sandbags. The Monitoring Officer inspected the ongoing repair efforts, along with other precautionary measures being taken in the region.
District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, Pollachi Sub Collector Catherine Saranya, Valparai Municipal Officer Azhagu Sundara Valli, and other government officials were also present at the event.
