In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman killed her two young children before taking her own life at her home in Semri village, Mishrapur district, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Sangeeta (35), wife of Harishchandra, and their children Shivash (3) and Subhankar (1). Police said Sangeeta allegedly strangled both children to death before hanging herself inside a room of their house.
According to sources, Harishchandra had gone to work in the morning and returned home in the evening to find the door locked from inside.
When he forced it open, he was horrified to see the bodies of his wife and children.
On being informed, the local police rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them to the district hospital for postmortem.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sangeeta had been under mental distress, which may have driven her to commit the act.
However, police are also exploring other possible motives to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.
A senior police officer said, “A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Early evidence suggests the woman was suffering from psychological issues.”
The shocking deaths have left the village of Semri in deep grief, with neighbors and relatives mourning the loss of the young mother and her two children.
