Mettupalayam people to get drinking water from Vilamarathur area

The Mettupalayam Municipality, consisting 33 wards, has long awaited a solution to provide clean drinking water to its residents. Responding to the persistent demand from the local community, the Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 22.2 crore for the endeavor, facilitated by Nilgiris Member of Parliament A. Raja.
The project to source drinking water from Vilamarathur area, under Nellithura Panchayat, has started following the issuance of tenders and signing of contracts. Commissioner Amuda, Engineer Sukanti, and councilors personally inspected the progress yesterday. Municipal officials have outlined the plan to extract clean drinking water from the Bhavani river, at a rate of 12 lakh liters per day from Vilamarathur.
The water will undergo purification at the Chamanna water station before distribution across all 33 wards of the municipality. With the project officially underway, municipal authorities are committed to expediting the completion timeline to swiftly deliver this essential service to the public.
