Minister EV Velu provides loans to Women SHGs in Tiruvannamalai

In a program held at the Tiruvannamalai District Collector's Office, Public Works, Highways, and Small Ports Minister EV Velu distributed bank loans to Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Tamil Nadu State Rural and Urban Livelihood Movement. The event followed a statewide loan distribution initiative inaugurated by the Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development in Madurai.
The event, hosted by the District Rural Development Agency, saw the participation of Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly K Pichandy, District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian, and other prominent leaders, including MLAs MP Giri (Chengam) and PST Saravanan (Kalasapakkam).
Minister Velu commended Indian Bank for its significant role in facilitating these loans, describing it as the lead bank in supporting the government’s financial schemes for women SHGs. He emphasised the importance of such initiatives in empowering women and improving their socio-economic status.
During the event, loans worth ₹99.02 crore were distributed to 11,865 beneficiaries from 872 SHGs under the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Movement. Additionally, ₹35.48 crore was granted to 5,394 members from 378 SHGs in the Tamil Nadu State Urban Livelihood Movement. The "Let's Live" program provided ₹1.976 crore in loans to 29 beneficiaries, totaling ₹136.48 crore across 1,279 SHGs, benefiting 17,288 individuals.
Minister Velu also visited an exhibition organised by Women SHGs, showcasing their products and initiatives. The program was attended by several key officials, including Project Director Dr. Mani, District Panchayat Leader Parvathy Srinivasan, and SHG members from across the district.
