Housing Minister S Muthuswamy inaugurated an incinerator machine to burn the dry wastes in the compost yard of Erode Corporation at Vairapalayam, Erode. Later, he told reporters: Under the Smart City project it was erected at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore, after getting approval from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.It is first of its kind in the Municipal Corporations of Tamil Nadu. It is 25 ton capacity.
Corporation Receives 192 tons
Similar unit will be installed in the area at a cost of Rs 1.7 cr. In other corporations also, similar machines are being installed. The corporation receives 192 tons of garbage daily and of which 60 tons are bio degradable wastes which are being converted as compost manure and distributed to ryots free of cost. The problem of garbage piled up anywhere in the city will be solved by this kind of project, he added.
