Minister inaugurates new Siddha medicine facility in Salem hospital

Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister R. Rajendran inaugurated the construction of a new Siddha medicine block at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem on Monday, highlighting the state government’s efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure.
The minister emphasized the importance of Siddha medicine in boosting immunity and preventing seasonal diseases like dengue and chikungunya. Herbal remedies and Nilavembu and Kabasura Kudineer are distributed daily at Siddha centers, where medicinal plants are also cultivated.
The new facility, funded under the Salem North MLA Constituency Development Scheme, will support Siddha, yoga, and naturopathy practices. Across Salem district, 70 Siddha centers are operational in government hospitals and primary health centers, along with Unani and Ayurveda centers in select locations. Homoeopathy services are available at five centers, including Edappadi and Attur.
Officials including Salem District Collector Dr. R. Brindha Devi, hospital dean Dr. J. Devimeenal, and district Siddha officer Dr. Ramachandran attended the event. The minister noted that Siddha and Homoeopathy services benefit 80-120 people daily per center, and pregnant women receive specialized care through the Sanjeevi maternity kits program.
