Housing Minister S Muthusamy inaugurated a 10- day training programme for 50 palm jaggery producers to produce more value added products by using modern know how and distributed Rs 68000 worth jaggery production kits to 4 producers at a total project cost of Rs 10 lakh at a function held at Siruvalur, near Gobi, on Tuesday.
It was arranged by the Tamil Nadu Palm Development Board, Coimbatore and Erode District Co-operative Palm Jaggery Sales Federation, covering 83 palm jaggery producers Coop societies in Coimbatore, Erode and Tiruppur districts. In Erode district alone 43 societies with 20000 members were functioning. The federation's turn over was Rs 4.50 cr per annum.
The training would help improve their life style and the products would be sold through khadhi Kraft, agriculture market society, 22 outlets of the federation,and Coop societies.
