Minister of Tourism Mr. K. Ramachandran visited the areas affected by landslides due to southwest monsoon rains at Italar Panchayat in Utagai Panchayat Union.
He told newsmen the south-west monsoon is continuing in the Nilgiris district.
Due to heavy rains in Italar area, the retaining wall has collapsed and mud has entered the houses. So, the study was carried out.
The residents of this area have demanded that a retaining wall be built. Their demands will be considered and appropriate steps will be taken within a year. According to the order of the Chief Minister, the district administration is carrying out works to face monsoon.
The Tamil Nadu State Disaster Relief Teams are ready at the regional level to deal with the South West Monsoon in the Nilgiris district.
Rescue team of 10 people each in Kunda, Gudalur area and Pandalur have been kept there to remove the trees that fall on the road.
During this study the Additional Collector (Development) Mr. Kaushik and local body leaders accompanied him.
