Minister Muthusamy flags off Manjappai Brigade in Coimbatore

Minister of Prohibition and Excise S Muthusamy flagged off the Manjappai Brigade, an awareness campaign aimed at raising awareness about the ill effects of single-use plastics on August 6. The event, organised by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, took place at the district collector’s office. 
As part of the campaign, government representatives participated in a bike rally, promoting the use of Manjappai (yellow cloth bags) on electric scooters in Coimbatore.
Following the Chennai High Court's order to make Nilgiris and Kodaikanal zero plastic cities, the Chief Secretary mandated the creation of Manjappai awareness in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Dindigul.
The event saw the participation of Coimbatore Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, District Environment Engineers Chandrasekhar and Ramachandran, Assistant Environment Engineers Lavanya, Senthil Kumar, Sathish Kumar, Mohana Jayavalli, Abubakar, and other officers.
