Minister for information and publicity MP Saminathan paid tribute to the body of a 15-year-old boy from Kerala, who died after a tree toppled on him during heavy rainfall and strong winds in the district on Sunday. He laid a wreath on the victim’s body.
The victim was with his family in the eighth Mile area when the weather worsened. A sudden gust of wind uprooted a tree that fell on the boy. Though the family rushed him to Ooty government medical college hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Speaking to reporters, he said that due to effective monsoon preparedness, only a few people are staying in two temporary shelters.
“Public is constantly updated on ground situations through various means of communication. Since heavy rain is predicted in the district, precautionary works are being carried out. Public are requested to act with caution,” he added.
Government whip Ramachandran, district monitoring officer Lalithaa, district collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, SP Nisha, additional collector (development) Koushik, government medical college hospital principal Geethaanjali, revenue divisional officer Sathish Kumar, municipal commissioner Vinoth, municipal engineer Sekaran, city health officer Sibi, block medical officer Murugesan and others were present.
