Tourism minister Rajendran, and public health minister M Subramanian on Thursday inaugurated a two-day leadership skills and performance improvement seminar for government health staff, first phase artificial insemination centre, psychiatric emergency and rehabilitation centre, and hemophilia application at government medical college hospital in the city.
Minister Rajendran said that the state has emerged as a leading state in India in various sectors because of the long-term visions of Chief Minister MK Stalin.
“As cited by the Chief Minister, education and medicine are two eyes of the government. That’s why more importance is given to the health sector. In the last four years, the department has been performing extremely well. Over 2.15 crore beneficiaries are benefited across the state, and 11.2 lakh beneficiaries are benefitted in Salem through the department,” he said.
“Through the Let's save lives - save ourselves project, 3.40 lakh beneficiaries have benefited in the state, and 16,527 beneficiaries in Salem. The United Nations has awarded the People's Health Project 2024. In particular, a subsidy of Rs 3 lakh has been released for entrepreneur pharmacies and a subsidy of Rs 2 lakh for pharmacies started by cooperative societies, and 1,000 Chief Minister's pharmacies have been opened across Tamil Nadu and are functioning well,” he added.
In Tamil Nadu, after Chennai, an artificial insemination centre has been opened at the Salem government medical college hospital, he said, adding that in this center, treatments such as infertility diagnosis tests, laparoscopy tests and intrauterine insemination will be provided to mothers in need.
A psychiatric emergency treatment and rehabilitation centre for the welfare of the mentally ill and the hemophilia app has been created and put into use, he added.
Health minister said that three new projects have been implemented in the district. “It will act as a wonderful center to protect mentally ill people by changing their situation of roaming the streets in a helpless state and restoring them, providing them with medical assistance and necessary assistance for livelihood,” he said.
“Similarly, regarding hemophilia, a blood factor deficiency disease, it is a disease in which even a small injury or while brushing teeth causes bleeding and all the blood comes out. Medicines should be taken immediately. Up to 1000 people in Tamil Nadu are affected by this disease. A program has been launched in Salem district today to monitor and care for them with humanity,” he added.
