The 7th Flower Exhibition at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, was inaugurated by Minister for Electricity Senthil Balaji and Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare MRK Panneerselvam. The event was also attended by Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, TNAU Chancellors Dakshinamoorthy and
Vice-Chancellor Geethalaxmi.
Speaking at the event, Minister Senthil Balaji highlighted Coimbatore’s achievements across various sectors.
He emphasised that the city ranks first in agriculture, industry, education, and healthcare in Tamil Nadu. He also acknowledged the special attention given by the Chief Minister to Coimbatore, ensuring the allocation of various government schemes and funds.
The minister noted that Tamil Nadu is the only state in India to present a separate budget for agriculture. In the past three years, the government has provided free electricity connections to two lakh farmers who had been waiting for a decade or more.
Additionally, three agricultural colleges were established within the first year of the administration.
Regarding infrastructure, he stated that 860 kilometers of tarred roads, worth Rs. 415 crore, have been constructed in Coimbatore Corporation areas in the last three years.
He also mentioned that Rs. 200 crore was allocated as a special fund for the city's development, with the Chief Minister ready to provide additional funding if needed.
The flower exhibition, featuring one lakh flowers, will be open for five days. The minister invited people from Coimbatore and nearby districts to participate and enjoy the event.
