MLA opposes commercial complex project

Commercial complex should not be built in Perundurai daily vegetable market and a new plan be formulated to improve the vegetable market, Perundurai MLA S.Jayakumar suggested in the all-party consultative meeting on the issue.

A daily vegetable market with 180 stalls was functioning for the last 30 years in the Perundurai old bus station area. The government allotted  Rs 3 crore for rebuilding it.  The traders of the market have been protesting town panchayat's order  asking them to vacate the shops next Saturday.

On behalf of Thiruvalluvar Daily Market Traders Association, an all-party consultation meeting was held on Thursday  in the market. Leaders of many political parties and social organizations attended. The MLA said farmers and traders come to the market which is in the heart of the city.

Removing it and building commercial complex will affect the livelihood of the farmers and traders who depend on it. A commercial complex can be set up anywhere in the city. So, the government should abandon the commercial complex project as currently designed create a new plan to improve the vegetable market to  create a safe environment for the farmers and traders, he pleaded.
