Mobile Food Testing Lab Inducted into Service in Salem

The Mobile Food Testing Lab announced by the Tamilnadu Government was inducted into service in Salem on Monday.Salem Collector S.Karmegam, formally inducted the facility on Monday. 
According to officials the mobile lab will be used for testing of food products for mandatory quality and also create awareness about food safety.

Food Safety Department

The Chief Minister M.K Stalin announced in the assembly during the 2022-23 budget discussion, that mobile food testing labs will be operated in Coimbatore, Salem, Palayamkottai and Thanjavur. The mobile lab will undertake tests of edible oils, tea dust, milk, sugar and pulses to ascertain the purity of the foods. 
The Food Safety Department will draw a monthly timetable for the mobile lab to collect samples at different parts of the district. Testing will be done on the field itself.Food handlers will be given awareness training in hygienic handling of food products. Also awareness about the testing facility will be disseminated said Dr. Kathiravan, District Designated Officer, and Food Safety Department.
