Modi is the only hope for Tamil Nadu fishermen

Modi is the only hope for Tamil Nadu fishermen

Tamil Nadu fishermen have been constantly arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for fishing across the border and their boats impounded. They have been chased away, attacked with stones and weapons, shot with guns. Many of them were killed, and fines in lakhs were imposed upon their release. News spread that the Sri Lankan has been planning to destroy the captured boats of Tamil Nadu fishermen by drowning them into the sea.
In this context, the permanent solution to end the suffering of Tamil Nadu fishermen, who are being tortured by the Sri Lankan Navy, is to reclaim Katchatheevu. A resolution brought by Chief Minister MK Stalin in the Legislative Assembly, urged the Central Government to review the agreement between India and Sri Lanka and take steps to retrieve Katchatheevu island. It was unanimously passed with the support of all parties, including the BJP. This resolution is historic.
No matter where the cries of war for Tamil Nadu fishermen are heard, it is a problem between the two countries, and only the Union Government can provide a solution to it. In that regard, the only hope for the fishermen is Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modi is all set to visit Rameswaram on April 6. There is no doubt that this visit will definitely imprint the suffering of Tamil Nadu fishermen even more deeply in his mind. It is with those memories that Modi is going to visit Sri Lanka later this month.
In the interest of the country and the livelihood of Indian fishermen, Modi should talk to the Sri Lankan President and take steps to retrieve Katchatheevu. For the time being, as an interim solution, the only wish of the people of Tamil Nadu is to put an end to the attacks and arrests of fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
