Venkatesh, the Monitoring Officer and Commissioner for the Backward Welfare Department, along with Nilgiris Collector Lakshmi Priya Thanneru, inspected the water flow in the Ponnani River on July 31. The inspection was conducted to assess the river's speed and volume, following heavy rains in the region.
During the visit, the officials instructed the respective departments to desilt the river once the water flow decreases. They also urged residents living along the riverbanks to relocate to the relief camps established by the district management for safety. Additionally, the officials advised the public to keep children away from the river to prevent accidents.
The Monitoring Officer and District Collector also directed the immediate removal and replacement of damaged bus stops to ensure public safety and convenience. Gudalur Revenue Officer Senthil Kumar and District Development Officers Arumugam and Jai Shankar accompanied the officials during the inspection.
