The 8- storey multi-speciality medical building, which is under construction at Erode Government General Hospital, will be opened for public use in March, said Assembly Assurance Committee Chairman Udayasuriyan, who inspected the construction work in the GH today.
He told newsmen while allocating funds for this construction, the government has allocated funds to purchase modern medical equipment. So, the multi-purpose medical unit with 512 beds will have all types of special units with 22 doctors.
Now, 90 percent of construction work was completed and the builders were told to complete the entire work by December. Following a plea from doctors, they were told to allot a space in the ground floor to establish 2 canteens for doctors and public separately. Officials said that the existing government general hospital has 88 doctor posts.
GH to be opened in March
Only two are vacant. For the newly constructed multi-purpose hospital, 22 doctor posts are being created, out of which 5 doctors will work in the casulty and the rest will work in the special treatment departments in the new building. 5 lifts, 7 operation theatres, 512 beds will be in the new building.
The government has already earmarked Rs 26 crore to install modern medical equipment in the new building.
